Open Call for Playwrights!

Do you wish to write for the stage?

We recognise that in order for artists and writers to create significant and meaningful new work and/or texts, they must work at their own pace while operating within a rigorous and specified incubation framework. The Boiler Room Cycle 2014 offers exactly that – the Boiler Room is Centre 42’s platform for new works and works-in-the-making.

The pilot 2014 cycle of the Boiler Room will be a 9-12 months project-specific content creation incubation programme. This cycle will focus on ideas/scripts/texts written in English that are in development or intending to be developed for theatre. The intended outcome of the programme is the completion of read-ready drafts of the projects.

The process begins with an open call that will begin on 7 April 2014 and will close on 7 June 2014. All applications received during the open call will be assessed by the Centre’s Resident Director, Resident Dramaturg and a specially-appointed External Selection assessor.

Shortlisted applicants will be informed latest by 16 June 2014.

All shortlisted applicants must attend a face-to-face interview at Centre 42 on either 21, 22, 28 or 29 June 2014. The interview panel will comprise the Centre’s Resident Director, Resident Dramaturg and another specially-appointed External Interview assessor

Successful applicants will be announced on 7 July 2014 at Centre 42.

All successful idea/scripts/texts invited to join the Boiler Room Programme will go through:

– 3 month Research Phase (7 July 2014 – 7 Oct 2014)

– 3 month Construction Phase (7 Oct 2014 – 7 Jan 2015)

– 4-week Writing Period ( 7 Jan 2015 – 7 Feb 2015)

The Resident Director and Dramaturg will be on hand to provide stewardship in terms of regular consultations, dialogues and recommendations.
