Open Call for The Vault: Lite

Are you ready to imagine the Singapore Theatre canon in your own unique way?

The Vault: Lite is the exploratory arm of The Vault, aimed at the creation of contemporary responses to works from the Singapore theatre canon. The residency focuses on the process of the response, with an emphasis on experimenting and ideating genre, form and content. It will culminate in a series of concept sharing sessions at key milestones with fellow artists-in-residence and the public.

The Vault: Lite is looking for projects that:

  • Respond to any text-based work from the Singapore Theatre canon
  • Respond to the given theme
  • Display innovative approaches to interpreting the selected canonical text

Selected artists-in-residence can look forward to the following:

  • A public mid-point sharing in Week 4 where the selected artists can expect to discuss and share about their progress and some approaches they have adopted
  • A public sharing at the end of the residency which could take the form of a lecture or a creative presentation, but must demonstrate:
    • The project’s premise
    • The project’s discoveries
    • A creative direction
  • Opportunities for documentation, artist reflection and social media features
  • A stipend of $500 each

The Vault: Lite Residency is now accepting applications!

  • This inaugural residency will run from 3 January to 28 February 2021.
  • 3-5 artists will be selected from the open call.
  • It will be conducted in a hybrid format, comprising physical and digital elements.
  • The theme for this open call is “A Whole New World?”
“A Whole New World?”
The coronavirus pandemic has jolted the world into a new era. Society has since spoken of the heralding of a “new normal”.

But is it new, or normal? Perhaps the pandemic has hastened a digital revolution. Perhaps it has also exposed in its wake the cracks of our society. But the shift to the digital been long in the making and the underbelly of our problems have always been lurking in the shadows.

How have we faced “new normals” that came before, or imagined a brand new future for ourselves? How has our society dealt with crises and turning points? How have they surfaced in our Singapore Theatre History?

How can we face a whole new world now?
